News TBI Solicitors, one of the Tees Valley's leading law firms, has successfully defended one of its registered trademarks from being used by a consortium of legal firms in the Midlands.
TBI discovered the firms trading online under the Ouch! brand name. Ouch is one of the registered trademarks owned by TBI Solicitors, used as a sub-brand to promote their own Personal Injury department through the website http://www.callouch.com/. TBI acted successfully to prevent the consortium from trading under the Ouch name. The consortium quickly ceased use of the name and shut down their website. Amanda Mitten, specialist in Intellectual Property at TBI Solicitors, said: “Companies need to protect their intellectual property, making sure they are aware of their rights and how to protect them. We advise that any company seeks legal advice to ensure their brands are appropriately protected. “We have a team of specialists advising clients on how best to protect their intellectual property, and how to enforce their rights if necessary. In this instance we discovered that one of our registered brands was being used online by other lawyers. TBI acted quickly, and effectively, to successfully protect its own registered brand.”
