Hartlepool solicitor Annaliese Barber’s qualification as a notary has strengthened the existing team of legal practitioners at leading full service law firm tbi - ensuring that the company caters for notorial clients as well as other private and commercial matters.
Annaliese, who has worked at tbi for twelve years and qualified as a solicitor in 2002, will now take on many of tbi’s notorial clients in addition to her ongoing private client matters. Taking two years to complete the distance learning course at Cambridge University, Annaliese’s Diploma in Notorial Practice was the next natural step in her career progression at the firm.
Most clients who require a Notary do not realise that Notaries are a separate and distinct branch of the legal profession, with their own rules, although most Notaries are also practicing Solicitors. Notaries usually deal with verifying documents and information that will be used overseas to facilitate a transaction. An example would be to witness documents for a property purchase.
Annaliese commented: “This new qualification will really enable me to take on
a whole new range of matters outside of my usual wills and probate remit, so I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead, including helping many of our clients who are investing in property overseas.”
Carolyn Tilly, head of private client and partner at tbi, added: “At tbi, we pride ourselves on the mix of youth and experience amongst our staff and place huge emphasis on staff retention and training. Annaliese’s hard work and commitment to the firm during her time here has not gone unnoticed, and so we’ve been happy to support her throughout the duration of this diploma.
Tbi is one of the North East’s leading full service legal practices, with offices throughout the region in Hartlepool, Wynyard, Stockton and Barnard Castle. Established in 1841, tbi’s strong regional heritage has seen the business evolve and grow to over 140 staff, 16 partners fee-earners and staff.
