In 2010, all ASR MoM hip implants made by DePuy were withdrawn, after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency had concerns that the number of patients requiring revision surgery was much higher than expected. The implants can cause tiny metal fragments/debris to be released into the joint, muscle and into the blood stream.
