It’s that time of year again -  trying to think of that special gift for that special someone, endless shopping trips and wrapping presents, that little box with a red bow. It’s an exciting time of year where we show our loved ones how much they mean to us and we can’t wait to see their faces when they open their presents!

The festive season can also make us think about those less fortunate than ourselves.  Statistics show that during December gifts to charities do increase. According to CASS Business School City University London, charitable gifts increase by 5% in December.

Furthermore, this sense of wanting to help has also spread to a surge of volunteers helping out local charities at Christmas. According to the charity Crisis, which is a charity for the homeless, during the festive period they will have over 4,000 volunteers. These volunteers do an amazing job, many giving up their time on Christmas Day to assist in kitchens preparing the homeless a Christmas Day Lunch.

The developing refugee crisis, has seen a significant rise in the number of festive appeals for donations.  One of the largest charities fronting this cause is UNICEF, appealing for donations to buy warm winter clothing and blankets as the temperature drops this Christmas.

Many of us have personal ties or a special place in our hearts for a certain charity. For instance, a local charity who helped a loved one through a terminal illness, a support group who helped you through your grief or perhaps an animal charity from which you adopted a rescued dog or cat.

A great way of showing your support  for a charity is to leave them a gift in your Will. As any charity will testify any gift, however small, makes so much difference to their cause.

If you choose to make gift to a charity in your Will then this also had the added benefit on being exempt from inheritance tax, ensuring that your charity gets the full amount of your gift.

If you wish to make a Will this festive season and to include a gift to charity then our expert team can guide you through this process.
