Helen Lyne's Presidential Diary November 2015
Now November is underway, preparation for the annual dinner is in full swing. I have been busy this month meeting with various people who have kindly offered to help me ensure that the dinner is a roaring success.
This year’s dinner is shaping up to be an exciting one with details to be announced shortly. For the time being, please keep 4th March 2016 free in your diaries! In addition, if you would like to support the annual dinner or assist with preparation, please do get in touch.
Dinner prep aside, last week I was invited to deliver a lecture to first year law students at Teesside University as part of their ‘Law, Life and Commercial Awareness’ Module. The lecture was well received and it was great to see so many enthusiastic students with lots of burning questions. I discussed not only my personal experience of working in the profession, but also my journey working with the TVLS and as President, in which the students seemed to be particularly interested.
What I am really enjoying this year is sharing my experiences so that others can gain a small insight into what working with the TVLS entails which I am hopeful will encourage others to get involved. The continuing successes of the new JLD, would seem to suggest that this is working.
Finally, on Friday evening I attended Sunderland Law Society’s Annual Dinner at Ramside Hall and what a great evening it was. I sat oDavid Sherwood-Smith’s table and enjoyed entertaining speeches from David, who is the President, and HH Judge Aitken.
I must take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Mr Sherwood-Smith and Sunderland Law Society for their fantastic hospitality. Attending these prestigious events as a VIP is certainly something to which I am quickly getting used.
I am President of the Tees Valley Law Society. For further updates, please follow me on Twitter.
