As we make our way through Resolution’s ‘Good Divorce Week’, our Private Family Team reflect on how they, as legal professionals, can make the divorce process more constructive, focussed and consequently more manageable for families dealing with separation.
As members of Resolution, our Private Family Team are committed to a Code of Practice that promotes a thoughtful and supportive approach to family issues. The objective of Resolution is to support families through likely one of the most difficult transitions they may face by aiming to reduce conflict and encourage positive outcomes for all parties where possible.
Jessica Inman, Associate Solicitor, explains that Resolution membership does not minimise or extinguish potential issues in a case and, rather, is about the approach Resolution lawyers take and specifically how cases are conducted. For example, as per the Resolution Code, Resolution lawyers will:
-
Reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation by avoiding inflammatory language and fostering open, respectful communication;
-
Support and encourage families to put the best interests of any children first, ensuring that the emotional and psychological needs of young people are a central focus;
-
Act with honesty, integrity, and objectivity, guiding families with transparency and fairness throughout the process;
-
Help clients understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of their decisions, ensuring informed choices are made with the future in mind;
-
Listen to and treat everyone with respect and without judgement, fostering a supportive environment where all voices are heard.
By following these principles, our Private Family Teams aims to make divorce and separation a less adversarial process and provide families with the tools they need to move forward in a way that is respectful and focused on long-term stability.
