Upcoming Events For The Tees Valley Junior Lawyers Divison
- AuthorEllie Foxton
The Tees Valley Junior Lawyer Division is now up, running and in full swing since the launch event in September. This is my first experience of the JLD and I can only sing its praises. It is great to mix with other junior lawyers from the region which we don’t otherwise often get the chance to do and it is good to hear of the different experiences that each member has had.
The JLD is an independent body which is set up to provide a voice for junior lawyers in the region. We represent law students, paralegals, trainee solicitors and qualified solicitors up to 5 years PQE in the Tees Valley. We will be organising regular social events, networking opportunities, training and, most importantly, providing support to members.
I am pleased to say that I secured a place on the committee as Events Organiser and we have already put a monthly event in place. The event will be known as ‘Thirsty Thursdays’, is held on the third Thursday of each month. October’s event was held at The Storytellers in Stockton and the next will be held at The Twisted Lip on Baker Street in Middlesbrough tomorrow ( Thursday 19th November ) from 17:30pm onwards. It would be great to see as many junior lawyers there as possible and it would be a good chance to find out what kind of events the members would like to see or be involved in with the JLD in the New Year.
I am busy organising the January 'Thirsty Thursday' and a venue will be confirmed in due course. The committee will also be discussing a larger event which will be held in the Spring/Summer of 2016 so watch this space for upcoming news!
I recently attended a lecture on 3rd November at Teesside University, at which Helen Lyne, President of the Tees Valley Law Society, described her life in law and it was great to see the enthusiasm from the first year students regarding the JLD. Therefore, I hope to see as many students as possible at the next event in Middlesbrough.
