New Appointments At Tilly Bailey & Irvine

  • Posted

We have recently appointed a family law expert to join our private client team based in our Wynyard office. This appointment coincides with two of our trainees qualifying as solicitors following their period of recognised training.

Wendy Beacom, from Darlington, is a Chartered Legal Executive who has worked on Teesside and latterly in North Yorkshire specialising in Family Law for over 20 years. In addition to regularly advising clients regarding their financial affairs following separation, whether they are married or unmarried, she also has significant expertise in respect of advising clients in relation to arrangements for children.  Wendy is an accredited specialist with Resolution, an organisation of specialist family lawyers, which means that she works to a prescribed standard of expertise in family law and supports a less confrontational approach to resolving issues. She is well regarded by clients and professionals alike for her pragmatism and approachability.

Michael Stevens, from Hartlepool, studied law at Newcastle University followed by the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Leeds. He joined Tilly Bailey & Irvine in 2014 as a paralegal and was offered a training contract in 2015. He will be joining the firm’s Corporate Team as a newly qualified solicitor, headed by Craig Malarkey, advising clients on commercial contracts and the buying and selling of businesses.  A client recently commented that he was extremely impressed by Michael and would not hesitate in recommending and using his services in the future.

Laura Zielinski, from Hartlepool, has been studying part time for the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in Leeds. She joined Tilly Bailey & Irvine in 2013 and started her training contract in 2015. She has spent nearly all of her time working in the Criminal Department as part of the Crown Court Team preparing files for trial. Laura will be working with partners John Ellwood and Neil Taylor and other members of the firm’s criminal team on a wide range of matters, including white collar crime, Inland Revenue Tax investigations, corporate infringements, theft and motoring offences.  Peter Makepeace QC of Dere Street Barristers who worked with Laura on a recent case described her work effort as being second to none and that she was a very substantial asset to the team.

John Hall partner at Tilly Bailey & Irvine, comments:

“Wendy is a real asset to our family team and we are delighted that she is joining us. She is very well regarded by clients and professionals in the Durham Tees Valley and North Yorkshire areas owing to the pragmatic advice she provides and her approachability.  In addition, one of the reasons for the firm’s longevity is its commitment to training young graduates to become future solicitors at the firm. We are delighted to offer Michael and Laura positions following their qualification and we wish all three every success in their new roles.”
