- AuthorAlison Leith
The Northern Law Awards takes place on Thursday, 1st June at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead.
In the year when Tilly Bailey & Irvine celebrates 175 years in business, we are delighted to be shortlisted for the Law Firm of the Year Award and that trainee solicitor, Michael Stevens, is a finalist in the Trainee of the Year category. These follow successes in recent years at the Awards, having won the Pro Bono / Community Initiative Award in 2016, the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year category and myself being named Lawyer of the Year, both in 2015.
Over the last year, the firm has seen significant growth in a number of practice areas, including commercial, conveyancing and private family work with an overall increase in turnover and net profit. The financial year 2015/16 saw the firm’s most successful financial performance in its 175 year history with turnover reaching more than £8.8million
With 16 partners and 168 staff, many of whom have trained and progressed within the firm over a significant number of years, we are the largest law firm in the Tees Valley. We provide specialist advice in all areas of legal practice and build long term relationships with clients, both commercial and individuals.
The firm actively encourages members of staff to participate in pro bono and community related initiatives. The positive feedback regularly received from clients shows how all staff go the extra mile to provide an excellent service such that a large percentage of work is from repeat business and client recommendation.
Trainee solicitor, Michael Stevens graduated from Newcastle University in 2012 with a 2:1 in Law, following which he worked in Hartlepool for an Insolvency Practitioner. He began his career with Tilly Bailey & Irvine in 2014 as a secretary in the personal injury department, quickly securing a paralegal role in the commercial property team. His hard work, enthusiasm and commitment soon led to him being given a training contract which he began in 2015, at the same time studying for the Legal Practice Course qualification at the University of Law in Leeds. He is currently working in the firm’s award-winning commercial disputes team.
Michael is an outstanding trainee solicitor whose positive contribution to the firm has been made not only in his financial performance but also in managing client relationships and business development initiatives. He has also played an active role in the launch of the Tees Valley Junior Lawyer’s Division, being appointed Chair in its initial year. The firm is delighted that Michael will remain with us when he qualifies as a solicitor in September in the Commercial office, based at Wynyard.
Our managing partner, John Hall comments: “Yet again we have been shortlisted as finalists in the prestigious Northern Law Awards which is testament to all of our staff’s commitment to the firm and its clients. As ever, we are up against strong competition and we wish everyone a successful evening.”
