Legal Aid
Tilly Bailey & Irvine's experienced divorce solicitors in the North East can be found in Hartlepool, Wynyard, Stockton-on-Tees and Barnard Castle.
Due to a change in law on 1st April 2013, there is no longer legal aid for the majority of family cases, with the exception for matters which involve social services, domestic abuse or child abduction. It has certainly made the funding of case more complex. However, there seems to be a belief amongst the general public that legal aid or other funding options are no longer available. This is not the case.
We offer all clients an initial free consultation, either in our office or over the telephone and will be able to tell you if we are able to represent you. We will discuss if you are eligible for legal aid, and if not, will provide you with a full estimate of costs.

In cases of domestic abuse, our team of specialist and experienced family lawyers are able to help and support victims, and help children to get the protection that they need. We work closely with local refuges and organisations, such as Harbour and My Sister’s Place, who offer advice, support and safety to victims of domestic abuse.
In cases where Social Services may become involved with your family, we can provide advice and support from our specialist team, including representation at court.
