John Walters brings a raft of Corporate and Commercial expertise to Tilly Bailey & Irvine, having joined the firm back in 1985.

Now a Partner, John works from the firm's commercially-focused Wynyard office and helps clients across the North East and beyond with transactions.

John works alongside Craig Malarkey and Michael Stevens and offers a full range of Corporate and Commercial services, primarily to owner/managed businesses. This includes acquisitions, mergers and restructuring.

His service also covers advice on all aspects of contractual arrangements, including agency, distributorship, software development, collaboration and joint ventures.

Among his ever-expanding portfolio, John created constitution for Materials Processing Institute, and also dealt with acquisition from Tata Steel of its R&D centre in Middlesbrough.

A Member of Durham University Business School’s Ethics Committee, John has previously served as a trustee of Hartlepool & East Durham Alzheimer’s Society (20 years) and Hartlepool Hospice.

John is a past footballer and current cricketer, golfer, walker and R&B music enthusiast.

In 2014 I was lucky enough to be selected as the legal lead dealing with the MBO of Tata Steel’s research facility  and subsequent creation of the Institute.
