Kirstey Maloney joined Tilly Bailey & Irvine in 2001 and is a key member of the family department as a firm Partner.
Kirstey specialises in legal cases concerning children, particularly care and adoption proceedings brought by the Local Authority seeking to remove children from the care of their family.
She will represent parents, family members and children in such proceedings. With Children Law Accreditation from The Law Society on her side, this ensures she can represent children, as well as signifying her breadth of experience in this unique area of law.
Kirstey regularly represents families and children in complicated cases, such as allegations of sexual abuse and when children have sustained physical injuries. She also represents cases where families are involved in substance misuse and allegations of neglect, and represents families and children in appeals - including to the Court of Appeal.
Kirstey will also represent families generally when Social Services are involved in their lives. In this situation, obtaining legal advice is important to avoid a minor situation becoming a major situation.
Kirstey has been a member of the HAPEN network which provides holistic advice and support for a wide range of individuals, as well as a member of the Law Society's Children Law Scheme as a Child Representative.
She is also a Tees Valley Law Society Constituency Member for Hartlepool and Peterlee.
