Experience and Expertise:
I enjoy providing corporate and commercial advice to a wide range of clients and I have experience in drafting and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements.
Having previously been self employed, I understand the demands and concerns of those instructing me and am able to combine sound commercial awareness as well as legal knowledge in order to provide effective advice and solutions to their various commercial needs.
2017 - 'Matthew Smith has expertise in drafting and reviewing commercial agreements. Representative matters include advising on academy conversions for both Ad Astra Academy Trust and Stranton Academy Trust, and assisting with the sale of a multi-practice veterinary surgery.'
Corporate Social Responsibility/Pro Bono/Community Relations:
I am an Enterprise Advisor as part of the Tees Valley Combined Authority's Local Enterprise Partnership.
I also assist the Esh Group in delivery of their Building My Skills programme. I attend schools across the region and help deliver the various elements of their programme.

Why law as a career?
I enjoy the challenge of helping clients realise their commercial potential - and no two days are ever the same!
Describe an interesting fact about yourself
I once met and interviewed Stephen Hawking.
What one thing could you not live without?
My family, I have recently become a Dad for the first time.
My phone – although it pains me to admit it!
Hobbies and interests
I enjoy cricket and football (both watching and playing) and am a keen supporter of Middlesbrough FC where I also contribute regularly to the club's fanzine. I also enjoy travelling, watching Australian rules football, attending music gigs and spending time with my family.
